I Blame Pinterest
By Kitty | February 23, 2012
I’ve been away from this blog for quite a while (again). It’s not a lack of ideas, it’s more a lack of computer time. For example, I’ve had a great post relating my blogging pattern to a predator-prey population curve brewing in my head for months (TGAW inspired!–I LOVE how she often relates everyday occurrences to scientific theories).
Perhaps one of these days I’ll get it out and onto this blog. But for now, I’ll throw the blame to the wolves, er… Pinterest.
Seriously, I blame Pinterest for my absence this time. At first, I didn’t get the point of Pinterest. Oooh, people can post pictures of cool stuff. Who cares? THEN I found the Crafting/DIY sections, and started seeing some really awesome organization tip posts. I was hooked. Now I’m not only smacked flat with the realization that my house is a mess, but I’m also starting to visualize how I can change things to make everything neater, more aesthetically pleasing, and more organized. It may take me ten to twenty years, but hey! It’s a start!
I’ve also started actually CREATING some of the cool ideas found on Pinterest. A few days ago, for instance, I made this really awesome colored pipe-cleaner sorting game for Maddie out of an old Ghirardelli cocoa powder canister, some paint, and a hole punch. The inspiration? A “busy box” found on Pinterest.
- I decided to color-code and paint the cocoa canister, too. It probably would look just as good (maybe better?) with a piece of colorful paper or fabric glued on. Here it is after the first coat of paint. I also didn’t have the suggested hole-punch-reinforcers to put around each hole and color with a marker to color code the holes. Instead, I painted a circle around each hole. Already, the paint is chipping off a bit, so I most likely will end up getting some hole-punch-reinforcers and use the marker method.

Maddie was very serious when she first played with the color sorter game. She focused and put the pipe cleaners in all the correct spaces! (I know the flash made it look like she's putting a blue one into a purple hole... but trust me--it's purple!). Even a few days later, she asks to play with it multiple times a day. At just under $2, this is a win!
That same day, I also glued 50ish Crayola crayons to a canvas in preparation for my next Pinterest project–melted crayon art. Only two days after that, I got brave, pulled out the hairdryer and made ART! It was quite easy, very fun, and dare I say… addicting? I’m already plotting about how I can get a bunch more crayons so that I can experiment with some other designs and melted crayon creations.

And it begins! I worked the drips pretty much the whole way down, and I'm plotting some dancing or playing silhouette creatures in black along the bottom.... so stay tuned for pictures of the final masterpiece! Either way, this is SUCH a fun and easy craft to create (in my opinion) extremely aesthetically pleasing and colorful artwork for a playroom, child's room, or art room.
Oh, and I almost forgot! I recreated a super cute Valentine’s Day card for Maddie’s friend Noah. Idea inspiration? Pinterest!
You will most likely be seeing a lot more instagram photos in my blog… as you can tell, I kinda love all the fun stuff you can do with it! No worries, my old Canon Rebel XT is still kickin!
Hopefully the time between this post and the next will be shorter than the time that’s passed since my last… but if I’m not blogging, you can guess that I’m probably on Pinterest or creating something I saw there!! Come join me! Pinterest, as addicting as it is, really does inspire creativity (at least in me!)
