Spam Blows! (No Pun Intended)

By Kitty | July 15, 2009

I’m torn.  I had my blog set so that only people who registered could leave a comment, but then it made it extremely difficult for the casual passerby to comment.  So to fix it, I made it so that anyone could comment… I THINK as long as they leave some sort of identity.  I’m not a computer programming type, so I’m not totally positive of the details.  Either way, a couple months later and here I am with almost 1000 spam comments on my blog!  I mean, PLEASE!?

I must say, though, that some of the messages are quite hilarious.  For example… (Note I will not include any inappropriate words or suggestions here, so it’s still appropriate for all ages, despite the fact that VERY many of the spam comments are NOT appropriate for children or teens):

“Peaches grow wild, and pigs can live in clover; And a little house there he did spy; And with it a blow that laid him full low, “This man lovd little pride.” And gave him a curious long bow.”

There’s the first sentence of one of the spam comments that caught my attention.  It’s a nice little story, although out of context I have no idea what it’s about.  The fact that a middle sentence linked to some spammarific site, paired with the fact that it has nothing at all to do with the post at which it was listed gave it away that it was spam.

I have absolutely no idea what this guy (or spam robot) is talking about, but it also made me laugh:

“Very commendable skript you possess! Punctilious theme across all and unusually resoursful portal! Remarkable difficulty admins!”

Where do they come up with this stuff!?

“A great ship asks deep waters. Children are poor men’s riches. crankletter, It’s insertional achilles tendonitis, “Twa friars of France, twa friars of France, That sycophants are counted jolly guests, For needs must I say, thou hast got the day,”

Really? haha

And then there are the comments that are all ??????.  Does anyone have any idea what that’s about? I’m guessing that perhaps the spam comment is in a different language, and rather than translate, it just posts as ???  Either way, I’ve got lots of those too.

Time for me to get back to my 600+ spam messages to mark as spam. I’ve started going through and marking them as spam in bulk, so if I accidentally delete any one’s REAL comment, I apologize in advance.  Although I do suggest that you send me a separate email giving me a heads up if you ever leave a comment with any spam spoilers in it… yes, you know the words about which I’m referring.

And if  ANY one has an idea or a tip about how to minimize the amount of spam that bombards my blog on a daily basis, please let me know!!! Thanks, and I hope you enjoyed the fine excerpts from my latest spammer “fans”!!

Hi, I just had my first spam comments on my blog the other day. There were about 10 of them and I deleted them all. Very frustrating, but comical at times when you read them….just like some of yours were. I found you through the women-prenuergalore blog…thanks for posting your comments there regarding my art note card giveaway! I like those heart images in the photos on the top of your blog!

I have always seen hearts shaped from many different things it is almost magical. I have a small piece of granite carved into the most perfect heart. my six year old son rode his bike by a truckload of gravel dumped in the drive and reached in and pulled this heart rock out from gazillions of small rocks I would not have believed it but saw him with my own eyes and then there was this heart shape made of something like leather that just come up out of the ground in my lawn fortunately I took a picture of it because the next day it was gone thanks for your site now I know i am not the only one!!
