From Ashtanga Apprentice to GURU
By Kitty | March 18, 2008
I’ve been practicing Ashtanga yoga regularly (at least two times per week) since July 2007. I absolutely love the practice… the combination between relaxing stretches and intensely challenging poses with the quick non-stop pace just gets me going. I walk out of that class feeling like I’m on top of the world and ready to tackle any challenge…. EVEN after a long, grueling, not-so-hot day. It’s sort of my panacea. Although it still hasn’t gotten rid of the ringing in my ears. Oh well… I’ll give it time.
Aaaanyway… so a bit less than a month ago, I enrolled in a 5-month Yoga Soul Sweat Teacher Training course at my yoga studio (The Yoga and Healing Center, in Scotch Plains, NJ). I’ve literally been enrolled in the training for only a few weeks… not yet the accomplished yogi teacher I hope to be by the end of the course. So last week, after my Ashtanga class, my teacher asked if I would want to sub for his class once I’m done with the teaching training. I was PSYCHED and said, “Definitely!” I absolutely LOVE Ashtanga, so of course I would love to be able to share that with others by teaching!
Today, exactly four days after that initial request, I was asked to sub for his class THIS THURSDAY! Ahhhhhh! I’m flattered… I’m excited… I’m scared! I’m hoping I will be able to muster every bit of confidence and yogi guru-ness inside of me to successfully lead a challenging Ashtanga class. Back to my David Swenson Ashtanga Practice Manual! I’ve got some studying to do!

congratulations! I’m sure you will do well. Just preach what you have practiced!
